Private Lessons

  • All cancelled lesson must give 24 hours notice or you will be charged for the price of the full lesson.
  • You must make Tiesha aware of vacations as soon as you know the dates
  • Cash and checks are allowed.  Checks must be made out to SSS.  Check writing privileges will be revoked if a
check with insufficient funds is written.  The skater must also cover ALL bank charges before lessons will resume.
  • Skaters must pay at the end of each week for lessons unless prior arrangements are made.
  • Skaters will get 60 minutes meetings through out the season without charge.  Additional meeting time will be charged
    the price of a lesson.
  • Video lessons (off ice...including competition critique, lesson breakdown) will be charged as an on-ice lesson.  This
does not include video lessons on ice.  I use video thought the year to show the skater proper body positions and to
increase body awareness.  This type of video lesson is part of a normal lesson.
  • Team and co-coaching policies:  Any skater wishing to work with a member of the team of coaches that I work with
must meet with me to discuss a plan for lessons and policies on team coaching PRIOR to scheduling any lessons.
Out of courtesy and to facilitate scheduling, I request that if you are interested in adding additional coaches to your
lesson plan it is discussed with me before any of the coaches below are contacted.

Alphabetical list of coaches that I work with (and their specialties)
*Jessica Anastasio:  Freestyle and Off Ice
*Garrett Brockert:  Dance
*Lauren Downs:  Off Ice Training
*Kathleen Genovese:  Moves and Choreography
*Cat Hulford:  ISI
*Susan MacDonald:  ISI Programs, Freestyle, and Choreography
*Dawn Ward: Freestyle
*Bill Young: Trampoline Trainer
Note:  Depending on the skater and the situation I am open to working with most coaches providing it is discussed prior to
the lesson and a plan in established to make sure we are all working towards the same goal.  If you would like to work with a
coach who is not on this list, please let me know.  See co-coaching policies above.

Testing Fees
USFSA
$30 per test + travel for non local rinks:  (25 minutes is the average time that I am with the skater to warm them up and for
the test to take place).  There are many testing opportunities that are local and if a skater makes arrangements to test
outside the local area please contact me to review the approximate cost  for mileage and/or hotel.

Travel Fees
Travel would include any hotel and $0.48.5 cents per mile for mileage

ISI
The test is usually conducted during an on-ice lesson so the cost would be the amount to register the test and the fee for
the badges and the time for the lesson.

Competition Fees
USFSA
$60 for the each event + hotel fees.  I have changed the fee for competitions as of 8/1/07 to a flat rate.  I will not charge for
mileage for the event unless there is travel outside the New England area (this will be determined in advance of the event if
there is extensive travel).  Hotel fees will be divided evenly between ALL the skaters attending the competition.

Regular lesson rate for any practice ice (if practice ice is shared by more than one student, the fee will be divided by the
number of skaters attending the freestyle/practice ice)
Competition Notes:
  • I will arrive at least 1/2 hour prior to announced start time of the event
  • Skaters are responsible for their off ice warm up.  When possible, I will assist a skater with their warm up but if I have
other skaters this will not always be possible
  • Once the skater has reported to me to for the event (and warm up if the schedule allows), I request that all parents sit
in the stand so they are able to enjoy their child's' performance.
  • Skater 30 min warm up that needs to be complete before finding me (when I am not available to assist) is the
following; 5 min light aerobic activity, 5 min passive stretches, 10 min active stretches, 5 min light plyometrics
(grapevines, skips, quarters, etc), 5 min program review
  • Skaters need to have skates on and be prepared with make-up done, hair done, with spare music on hand 1/2 hour
    before event
  • Skaters need to have sneakers and any other warm up equipment (jump ropes, CD, MP3, etc) for warm up prior to
    event
  • Skaters need to look presentable for events with skates polished, extra CDs on hand, clean gloves, a presentable
warm up jacket, make-up done, hair SECURELY tied back, and water/tissues/other supplies with them.
  • If there is a conflict with another event in another rink, then a plan will be discussed prior to the event with where to
meet, check in, and prepare for event
  • If a critique is available for the event I will plan on attending with the skater unless there is a conflict with another
event.  It is recommended that the skater attend all available critiques whenever possible.  Critiques usually are
    immediately following the event.
  • I will plan to stay at all events though the last posted results for each skater.
  • I usually plan to put skaters on the ice for optional events unless arranged or discussed in advance (compulsory,
spotlight, etc) or there is a conflict.  Note:  Freestyle and Short programs take precedent over additional events
    where there is a conflict.
  • When conflicts occur with events in different rinks at different times I will consider the following when planning my
schedule for the even; if a skater has another coach that can put them on the ice, first time events for skaters, new
events, critique events, prior schedule, coaching availability of the other coaches I regularly work with. *** I
understand that each skater has invested a lot of time and work with a program and I would love to be there for each
and every program, however this is not always possible and I will try my best to make sure everyone has a coach to
put them on the ice.  If another coach has to put you on the ice (and a conflict is anticipated) then I will discuss the
conflict with the parties prior to the competition when possible.  This will only be a problem when rink schedules run
ahead or behind and the pre-planned schedule becomes invalid.
  • Skaters must notify me of their competition time...compeititons do not notify coaches unless they post on a website.
Please also notify me of any practice time they have secured.

ISI
See the Symmetrical Skating School website for coach fees and charges

Putting skaters on the ice:  We all try to work as a team at ISI events, however we do try to put our own skaters on the ice
whenever possible since we are familiar with the skaters' program.  When doing the schedule for ISI events, your PRIMARY
ISI coach will be assigned to put you on the ice unless they are unavailable due to a conflict or judging assignment (see
below)

IMPORTANT Testing and competition NOTES
  • Travel fees for testing and competition are divided by the total number of students attending the test or competition.
  • If you have multiple coaches and you want both coaches to put you on the ice then you are responsible to pay both
    coaches for their time.
  • When you work with multiple coaches, discuss with our coaching staff which coach will be putting you on the ice.
Many times the coaches will attend different events or tests and you will need to find out which coach will be there to
    assist you.
  • If you choose to go to a competition that is not on the list of events, let the coach(es) know prior to sending in the
event application.  It is recommended that skater participate in only 1 competition per month during competition
season.  This is to allow enough time between events to fix or change any program components that need
addressing.  You and/or your parent will be putting skaters on the ice for events that are not on the competition list.
You can inquire about availability of your coach(es) to see if they can attend (additional fees may apply) or you can
inquire if any other member of the coaching team may be attending the event and arrangements can be made to
have them put you on the ice (inquire about their competition fees before the event).
  • If you do plan to attend an event that is not on my schedule, it is recommended that a coach put the skater on the
ice.  Coaches are more versed in rules and protocol and can provide the assistance that is necessary for the event.
Many events do not allow anyone without coaching credentials (registered coaches with ISI, USFS, or PSA) to be in
the area where skaters get on the ice.
